Eugene Buttigieg is an Associate Professor of European and Comparative Law at the Faculty of Laws of the University of Malta. Prior to entering academia in 1994, he was a senior legal officer at Malta's Ministry of Foreign Affairs. Since 2000 he has acted as a consultant on consumer and competition law to Malta's Ministry for Competitiveness and Communications. He has been a board member of the Malta Resources Authority, Malta's regulatory agency in the water, energy and mineral resources sectors since 2001 and was a member of Malta's Copyright Board from 1994 to 2005.

He holds law degrees from the University of Malta (LL.D.), the University of Exeter, UK (LL.M. with distinction in European Legal Studies) and the University of London, UK (Ph.D.). His doctoral research at the University of London focused on EC and US antitrust law. He has published widely in his main teaching and research areas, namely European law, competition law, consumer law and intellectual property. He is a member of the UK Association for European Law, UK's Competition Law Association, the Competition Law Scholars Forum and the International Association of Consumer Law.
